Privacy Policy

Date Mode is an app that locks two partners' phones at the same time. It is made by VIRAL APP DEV LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it and how you can delete it.
The short version
We don't sell your data, show ads or use third-party analytics. Which apps you block and how you use your phone stay on your phone. Your photos, notes and confessions are visible only to you and the partner you shared the date with.
What we collect
Your account
- Your email address and sign-in method (email and password, Sign in with Apple or Google). With Apple, we only ask for your email, and Apple's Hide My Email works.
- The name you give, which your partner sees.
- A profile photo, only if you add one. We crop it, strip its location and camera details, and only you and your current partner can see it.
You and your partner
- Your pairing code and who you're paired with.
- Each date: when it started and ended, how long you chose, and who ended it.
- If you unlock early: the confession you type and the excuse you pick. Your partner can see both in the app. Their notification includes the excuse and never the confession.
- A planned date time, if one of you sets it. It clears when the date starts.
- Notes you add to a date, and photos you take with the Date Mode camera during a date. These are stored privately and are visible only to the people on that date.
Notifications
- If you allow notifications, we store your device's push token, platform and time zone so we can send reminders and partner updates at sensible hours.
- Reminders, weekly updates and offers are off until you turn them on.
- We keep a simple daily record of things like whether you allowed notifications or opened a reminder. It is tied to your account and contains no message content. We use it to make reminders work better.
Subscriptions
Purchases go through Apple. We receive a record of your subscription (which plan, whether it's active, when it renews or expires) so we can unlock Date Mode for you and your current partner. We never see your payment details.
What stays on your phone
- Screen Time (iPhone). The apps and websites you choose to block, and how you use your phone, stay on your device inside Apple's Screen Time system. We never receive app names, categories, websites or usage.
- Accessibility Service (Android). Date Mode only checks which app is in front so it can block the ones you picked during a date. It doesn't read the screen or what you type, and it keeps or uploads no app history.
- Phones together. When you hold your phones together to start a date, they talk to each other directly over an encrypted local connection. No location or distance is uploaded or stored.
- Camera and photos. The camera is used only for photos you take in Date Mode, without the microphone. For a profile photo you pick one image; we don't get access to your library.
Who can see your data
- Your partner sees your name, profile photo, the dates you share, confessions and excuses from those dates, and the photos and notes from them.
- Nobody else in the app. There are no public profiles, feeds or links.
- Service providers who run parts of the app for us, listed below. They process data only to provide their service.
| Provider | What for |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Accounts, database and private photo storage |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, purchases, push notifications |
| Sign in with Google, and push notifications on Android (Firebase Cloud Messaging) | |
| Expo | Delivering push notifications |
| Superwall | Showing the subscription screen. It knows you only by an account ID, never your name or email. |
We don't sell or rent your data, and we don't use it for advertising or tracking across other companies' apps. We may disclose data if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while you have an account. Photo uploads that never finish are cleaned up automatically. Your subscription is handled by Apple, and we may keep records of subscription events for accounting.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app under Account. You can't delete it during a live date. Deleting removes your sign-in, your profile photo, the photos you took, your confessions and your notification settings, and ends your pairing.
Your partner keeps their own photos and the shared record of dates you had together, with your name removed. Shared notes stay with them, read-only. If you signed in with Apple, we also ask Apple to revoke Date Mode's access.
Deleting your account doesn't cancel an App Store subscription. Cancel that in your Apple ID settings.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your data, or to object to how we use it. Email us at emily@getdatemode.com and we'll respond within 30 days.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Photos are stored in private storage with no public links, and database access is limited to the account and couple it belongs to. No system is perfectly secure, so please tell us if you find a problem.
Children
Date Mode is for adults in a relationship. It isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us data, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes we'll also tell you in the app.
